Eastern Wyoming College Men’s Basketball Signs Jonah Palelei

TORRINGTON, Wyo. — Eastern Wyoming College Men's Basketball has announced the signing of Jonah Palelei for the upcoming season.

Palelei, a 6'7", freshman from Perth, Western Australia, has signed a letter of intent to join the Lancers.

A dynamic forward, Palelei brings a physical presence to the court. He has the ability to stretch the floor with his shooting while also using his strength to score in the paint. His rebounding ability is expected to make an immediate impact.

Palelei has competed at a high level throughout Australia, including experience in NBL1 competition, the Tonga Basketball Competitive Games and the Mini Pacific Games. In 2025, he earned MVP honors with the Cockburn Cougars and was named team MVP while representing Western Australia at the U20 national level.

In addition to basketball, Palelei has a diverse athletic background that includes competitive swimming and certification as a CrossFit instructor.

Head Coach Bill Engel said Palelei's physicality and versatility will be valuable additions to the program.

"We are excited to have Jonah in the program," Engel said. "He will be counted on for leadership, physicality, rebounding and toughness. We believe Jonah has the potential to average 8 points and 8 rebounds or better as a freshman. Jonah is one of several players expected to set the tone for our program."

Palelei is expected to contribute immediately as the Lancers prepare for the upcoming season.
